History[edit]

In 1985, Orion Pictures launched its own home entertainment division, Orion Home Entertainment Corporation. In 1987, the company launched its own home video label, Orion Home Video, to release videocassettes of Orion product.

In 1988, the company gradually expanded by distributing titles from Nelson Entertainment, and launched a label, Filmways Home Video, dedicated to vintage product. In 1989, it picked up distribution of titles from Trylon Video, in addition to licensing Orion titles for the cassette.

Over the years, the company expanded, by distributing titles from Fox Lorber Home Video, Major League Baseball Productions, Triboro Entertainment Group, Playboy Films, Motion Picture Corporation of America, and Streamline Pictures, among others.

In 1996, the company bought out Samuel Goldwyn Entertainment, and the distribution group briefly became Metromedia Entertainment Group.

In 1997, Metromedia sold its entertainment assets to MGM, and soon afterwards, it was folded into MGM Home Entertainment.
