History [ edit ] Prior to the launch of First Look's home entertainment arm, First Look Pictures mostly licensed its titles to BMG Video for home video distribution.
This was changed in 1999 when parent company Overseas Filmgroup set up a home video division that carried the First Look Pictures moniker. When parent Overseas Filmgroup was reorganized as First Look Media in 2001, the home video division adopted the First Look Home Entertainment name.
In earlier years, the company licensed its titles to Image Entertainment for videodisc distribution, including DVD. This was changed in 2002, when First Look started releasing titles on DVD on their own.
In 2005, First Look had acquired DEJ Productions from Blockbuster Entertainment. Also that year, the company had acquired Capital Entertainment and merged into First Look Studios . In 2006, the company had acquired Ventura Distribution, including UrbanWorks Entertainment, and the television syndication rights of films from Pinnacle Entertainment. In 2007, Millennium Films/Nu Image had secured a stake in the studio.
In 2010, First Look filed for bankruptcy protection. Millennium Entertainment , a subsidiary of Nu Image had acquired all of the assets handled by First Look Studios. In 2015, Millennium had became Alchemy, and in 2016, Alchemy had filed for bankruptcy.
The library is now in the hands of FilmRise.
