[edit]- May 10: Walt Disney Home Video begins operations, initially through a deal with Fotomat Video.
- June: MGM teams up with CBS Video Enterprises to start the MGM/CBS Home Video label.
- June 23: Time-Life Video begins distributing their releases through Warner-Elektra-Atlantic Corporation, and begins using the WCI-styled flip-top gatefold packaging for releases from this point onward.
- September: Allied Artists Video Corporation was folded.
