Video Treasures
Video Treasures was a home video distributor founded in February 1985 by Jack Rose, Pete Hyman, Stan Sirote and George Port, with the latter initially as general manager. Initially, the company distributed public domain titles, including cartoon compilations. In 1986, the label introduced a video line of WWII-era titles, called the World in Conflict, and began venturing into licensed material, initially via licensing agreements with Color Systems Technology and Hal Roach Studios and sub-licensing agreements with Prism Entertainment, Active Home Video, Trans World Entertainment, Academy Entertainment, Saturn Productions, United Entertainment, Media Home Entertainment and Vestron Video.
In January 1989, this company, alongside affiliated companies such as Video Cassette Sales (to which responsibilities of the company's releases were credited at first) and duplicator Video Cassette Duplicating Corp., was acquired by the Handleman Company. Four months later, Handleman formed a joint venture with GoodTimes Home Video in Canada, called HGV Video Productions.
For a brief period, Video Treasures was also distributing some releases from Parents Approved Video from 1986 to 1990.
By mid-1991, two labels became divisions of Video Treasures - Burbank Video and MNTEX Entertainment. The former label was previously a division of Viking Entertainment, which presumably went kaput at this point.
On May 12, 1995, Video Treasures merged with Starmaker Entertainment to form Anchor Bay Entertainment. The name "Anchor Bay" originated from a school district in Michigan, where the Handleman Company was based in. Both labels remained in use as imprints of Anchor Bay until the summer of 1998.

Trivia
[edit]- An article about VHS tapes starring Bruce Lee on a May 1995 issue of Black Belt criticized this company's quality control, because two copies of the 1994 release of The Green Hornet Starring Bruce Lee as "Kato" would not track properly (the first copy was purchased by the writer of the article and then exchanged for another). While it is possible that either one or two of the batches both copies came out of could have suffered from a duplication defect, it is unknown when both copies were printed.
