Batman (1989)[edit]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI4xr8GVlns

I noticed that in the description of your opening video to your 2002 VHS copy of this film on YouTube, you got it mixed up with one of your 1989 copies. I saw the print/pressing date of one of your 1989 copies in the description, but your 2002 copy seems to use the tape master from the 1998 release, as I could tell by the 75th anniversary variant of the Warner Home Video logo at the beginning. So do you think you could fix this?

69.85.235.224 14:52, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

What do you mean? --Videolover1999 (talk) 23:56, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

You might have to look at the description, then you'll see what I mean. The description for your 2002 copy states that it was printed on the 44th week of 1989, but I don't think that's when your 2002 copy was printed, though. 69.85.235.224 11:49, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

I just got it fixed. Sorry about the typo. --Videolover1999 (talk) 23:03, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

The Little Fox[edit]

You might want to purchase this copy or this one and see if it has the Custom Duplication markings. --IlCattivo25 (talk) 00:05, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

Shame, really.[edit]

Seems the way YouTube descriptions and comments work is really getting in the way of home video research. Anyway, do you have any Nintendo Power VBIs? --IlCattivo25 (talk) 03:51, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

I'm afraid not. --Videolover1999 (talk) 04:51, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

The 25 Year Mission (Live!)[edit]

I actually found this tape on Amazon not too long ago and the tape in one of the images has the sticker label on it.

The copy that you own, though, did you buy it from eBay or Amazon, or a thrift store? Perhaps the sticker label on your copy got peeled off by the previous owner at some point before you bought it? 69.85.235.224 12:38, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

Maybe it fell off. Anyways, I got it at Goodwill. --Videolover1999 (talk) 22:57, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

The Magic School Bus tapes[edit]

Did your copies of "For Lunch" and "Gets Lost in Space" have any printings on the tape spine? I wonder if Allied Film & Video Services/Allied Digital Technologies had duplicated some copies of other A*Vision/WarnerVision tapes during the 1990s, besides the "Magic School Bus" tapes. 69.85.235.224 17:02, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

I may have to check again. --Videolover1999 (talk) 22:06, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

Do they both use horizontal silkscreen-inked labels, or horizontal sticker labels? If the latter, are the labels comprised of white text in a black background or black or colored text in a white background?

Horizontal ink labels --Videolover1999 (talk) 22:34, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

Also, do you own any of the DVD releases of the series (the 2000s WarnerVision Entertainment releases, the 2010s New Video Group releases, or both)? When I was in elementary school, some of my classes had a few DVDs of the series which were from New Video Group, and the library had a few VHS tapes of the series from WarnerVision Entertainment. Also, on the prints of most of the episodes used on the New Video Group DVD releases, the original 1985 Nelvana logo got plastered with the 2004 Nelvana logo with the byline "A Corus™ Entertainment Inc. Company". One sole exception on those releases was the episode "Ups and Downs" for which the original print is used. 69.85.235.224 12:27, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

I don't think so. --Videolover1999 (talk) 22:34, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

Muppet Sing-Alongs: Muppet Treasure Island[edit]

What did the printing (including the print/pressing date) say on the copy of the tape you took the "WD00006794 M#018" VBI code from? 69.85.235.224 12:21, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

The print date is 012596 (January 25, 1996), and as for the overall printings, I will need to look again.

Disney's Sing-Along Songs: Very Merry Christmas Songs[edit]

Not sure if you have checked the copy you got recently, but isn't that particular copy the 1994 release? I think the "91" on the print/press date was a typo. 69.85.235.224 12:23, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

Maybe... --Videolover1999 (talk) 19:09, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

Speaking of typos, last night, while I was looking up VHS copies of the direct-to-video film "Cinderella II: Dreams Come True" online, I discovered an earlier copy of the VHS release that had a typo on the print/press date. The date was misprinted as "010301" (January 3, 2001). I believe that copy was actually pressed on January 3, 2002. A week ago, I have also discovered a Starmaker Entertainment tape printed/pressed on October 21, 1994 (I don't remember the exact name of the tape) where the date was misprinted as "1021944" (two fours instead of one). Months ago, I discovered a VHS copy of "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Funny, We Shrunk the Adults" printed/pressed on August 21, 1992, where the date was misprinted as "082191" (August 21, 1991).

If I'm not mistaken, there are also some tapes printed/pressed on January 10, 2000 where the date was misprinted as "011080" (January 10, 1980).

69.85.235.224 15:04, 24 October 2023 (UTC)

I recently discovered a copy of a Mickey's Fun Songs tape (can't remember the name of the title) on eBay, that I believe was printed/pressed on June 7, 1994, where the date was misprinted as "0060794". 69.85.235.48 16:06, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Disney's Cinderella trilogy[edit]

Are there any other Disney Cinderella films you own on physical media? Such as Cinderella 2 and 3? Also, do you own the 1995 Masterpiece Collection VHS release of the first film? 69.85.235.48 13:07, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

I have the 1988 and 1995 VHS releases of the first film. --Videolover1999 (talk) 22:42, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

What does the print/press date say on your 1995 copy? 69.85.235.48 12:45, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

061095 (June 10, 1995) --Videolover1999 (talk) 23:28, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Cool. My copy of the 1995 release was printed/pressed on June 11, 1995, a day after your copy. Also, my copy has the DTMF tones at the beginning and end.

Does your copy also have the DTMF tones? 69.85.235.48 12:45, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

DVD[edit]

I noticed that at the beginning of some of your DVD opening videos on YouTube, there's a bar on the top left of the video that says "DVD-Video". What DVD player do you use for some of those videos? I believe I have seen some DVD players (including Memorex, Sylvania and Philips) that had status words inserted into bars on the top left of the screen, such as "Loading", "No Disc", or "DVD-Video". I own a Polaroid DVC2000 VCR/DVD player combo unit and it also has them. I once owned a Sylvania portable DVD player, and later, an Onn portable DVD player, and they also had them. 69.85.235.48 15:58, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

It varies by upload. --Videolover1999 (talk) 23:11, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Well, my question was - what DVD player do you use that has that "DVD-Video" notation on the top left of the video? I apologize if I'm confusing you. I was just wondering. 69.85.235.48 12:44, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

The Lyons Group and Cassette Productions[edit]

The telltale markings may not be there, but they might have been a later addition to Cassette Productions tapes, and besides, we already have confirmation from Reddit user GummyRoach, who appears to have been one of the first cases of Barneyphobia based on what we know. Just reading the end of his comment will reveal that the duplicator also worked on Franklin Covey audiocassettes (albeit he used derogatory nicknames for such), and a Google search for Cassette Productions turns up this article that mentions Franklin Covey as a client of Cassette Productions. Plus, it is one of few duplicators that used both Otari TMD and Analog Protection System, both of which are also mentioned by GummyRoach as having been offered by the duplicator. --IlCattivo25 (talk) 07:30, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Ah, now I get it! --Videolover1999 (talk) 07:33, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Global Sourcing[edit]

Which tape identifies it as the company? --IlCattivo25 (talk) 07:50, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

My copy of Santa Claus is Coming to Town, released in 1995 by Allied Artists Classics. --Videolover1999 (talk) 07:51, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

How did Global Sourcing (assuming they were the parent for Allied Artists Entertainment) get the home video rights to the film? Did they mistakenly assume the film was in the public domain even though it was not? 69.85.235.232 16:20, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

I don't really know, to be honest. --Videolover1999 (talk) 11:57, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

According to The VCR From Heck, Trans-Atlantic Video released two Rankin/Bass specials on VHS; Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and The Little Drummer Boy, both released in 1988, one year prior to the official Family Home Entertainment releases. However, since Trans-Atlantic is mainly specialized in public domain content, it's unknown if they're licensed by Rankin/Bass and/or Broadway Video or if they're unauthorized.

47.17.104.88 23:41, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

47.17.104.88, Rankin/Bass' "The Little Drummer Boy" was also released on VHS by 21st Genesis Home Video's Happy Face Home Video division, also in 1988, which AFAIK, the Happy Face/21st Genesis release was unauthorized. The print used for the special itself on the Happy Face/21st Genesis release had the jingle for the 1966-1975 NBC Television Network bumper playing over the Rankin/Bass logo at the end (Apparently, the same error also occurred on lots of older broadcasts of the special, especially early '90s broadcasts that used a then-recent syndication print from Viacom). And for the record, Broadway Video held the copyrights to the pre-1974 Tomorrow Entertainment library, including the pre-1974 Rankin/Bass library, at the time (Rankin/Bass was a division of Tomorrow Entertainment from 1971 to 1974; at the time, Tomorrow Entertainment was a subsidiary of General Electric. General Electric kept the rights to the pre-1974 Tomorrow library after Tomorrow was sold to Dancer Fitzgerald Sample and Rankin/Bass was sold back to its namesake founders (Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass). Viacom held the television syndication/distribution rights to both the pre-1974 and post-1974 libraries of Tomorrow Entertainment from the late 1970s to sometime in the mid-1990s). Eventually, Broadway sold its family entertainment division to Golden Books Family Entertainment in 1996.
The Rankin/Bass logo is silent on the official home entertainment releases of "The Little Drummer Boy". Especially the older 1989-1997 releases from LIVE Home Video's Family Home Entertainment division and the 1998-2006 releases from Sony Wonder (At the time, Sony Wonder was part of Epic Records, itself one of Sony Music Entertainment's "flagship" music division labels).
69.85.235.47 17:23, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

And also, according to YouTuber Lane, on his video which I just saw entitled, "I Found the Rarest Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer VHS!!" the TAV Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 1988 tape was indeed unauthorized because not only does the character Rudolph remain copyrighted at the moment, but he also remains trademarked as well. Not only that, but all the songs from the special still remain copyrighted as well. Not only that, but according to The VCR From Heck, The Little Drummer Boy (1968) was also released by Goldstar Video Corporation in 1993, under their Camelot Entertainment division. (unrelated to the ad sales division of King World Entertainment)

47.17.104.88 17:01, 04 April 2024 (UTC)

Well, I wonder if the Camelot Entertainment/Goldstar Video release also had the error where the NBC bumper's jingle played over the Rankin/Bass logo at the end. 2601:4C4:4000:A8C0:D194:F047:EB40:1529 19:28, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

It probably did, but I don’t know for sure. And I think the Happy Face/21st Genesis release could be using the same print that Trans-Atlantic Video used, because of the picture looking kind of green. 47.17.104.88 12:23, 08 April 2024 (UTC)

At least the print that Viacom issued for syndication in the early 1990s was slightly better than the prints that Happy Face/21st Genesis and Trans-Atlantic used.
Another thing I have heard before is that Rankin/Bass' "The Hobbit" (part of the post-1974 Rankin/Bass library when Rankin/Bass was a division of Telepictures Corporation which later merged with Lorimar Productions to form Lorimar-Telepictures in 1986 and absorbed into Warner Bros. in 1989) was released by numerous PD-based labels/distributors, such as Peter Pan Industries (sometime in the 1990s), and MNTEX Entertainment in the early 1990s (the latter which was distributed at the time by Video Treasures). On the print that the MNTEX release used, the white looked more pinkish (likely due to the deterioration of the film print as a result of possible usage of cheap low-cost film stock).
Funny enough, I used to own a copy of a 1985 VHS release of Frank Capra's "Prelude to War" from Viking Entertainment's Viking Video Classics label. It was packaged in the 1986 cover and had the 1987-89 "label-it-yourself" sticker label (with Viking Entertainment's address on the bottom) on the front/face of the cassette shell. It was duplicated in LP mode, it did not have any printings on the bottom/spine of the cassette shell and it appeared to be recycled off of an SP mode copy of the Happy Face "Holiday Classics Volume 1" VHS from 1988; I could tell because at the end of the tape, just as the video cuts to a fullscreen static screen, the screen segues into the last few seconds of "Santa's Surprise" from the aforementioned tape. Somehow, whatever plant the tape was duplicated at managed to peel the old label off before inserting a new one (I could tell because I saw nothing underneath the label). I bought this tape from eBay back in October 2022 and I no longer have it after I've donated it at the end of last month.

Southern Star Duplitek[edit]

I'm just curious - how did you know that this duplication firm was subsequently acquired by Technicolor? 69.85.235.224 17:10, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

Casino Royale and Spider-Man[edit]

How do you know, I'm curious about 1986, 2002 and 2007 and brought down the fact that in 1999, Sony Pictures greenlit Spider-Man as a replacement for an unrelated 007 film that was another Thunderball remake produced by Kevin McClory, and also that year, MGM picked up Casino Royale as a replacement for a proposed Spider-Man film that James Cameron is planning on to do. The former came out in 2002, the latter came out in 2006. --2600:1700:4300:2C8E:E960:972C:A858:E407 21:30, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

L.A. Hero[edit]

If you have any L.A. Hero tapes (i.e. U.S. Renditions, Dark Image Entertainment, or Ultra Action Video), could you post their vertical blanking intervals? Thanks! --IlCattivo25 (talk) 02:05, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

I don't think I have any. --Videolover1999 (talk) 03:29, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

#48[edit]

Whence did you get the printings? --IlCattivo25 (talk) 02:25, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

Example 2 was from my copy of EscapeTapes: Otters, from 1992, Peter Roberts Productions. --Videolover1999 (talk) 02:29, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

And how did you know Big Idea tapes were duplicated here? --IlCattivo25 (talk) 02:34, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

I saw these printings on a 1993/1994 copy of Where's God When I'm S-Scared? via a YouTube upload by user DK's Media Central Returns. Type in "VeggieTales: Where’s God When I’m Scared VHS Comparison (@wembleyfraggleproductions3536's Birthday Special)" and skip to 2:10-2:12. --Videolover1999 (talk) 02:44, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

So it has to be somewhere that had facilities in the Chicago area at the time, since Me, Myself and Bob mentions Mike Nawrocki driving Phil Vischer and Chris Olson to the duplicator to deliver the very first VeggieTales master after a four-day spree to finish it up so the first batch could be delivered in time for Christmas, and so it had to be very close to Big Idea's workspace. --IlCattivo25 (talk) 03:01, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

As for the A.D. Vision tape, which tape has Example 1? --IlCattivo25 (talk) 03:22, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

I don't think I can remember, but I do remember it was from an eBay listing. --Videolover1999 (talk) 05:22, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

Can you remember any details besides? --IlCattivo25 (talk) 05:23, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

I don't think so. But if I do find the listing again, I'll be sure to let you know. --Videolover1999 (talk) 05:24, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

One thing that is for sure is that it had to be about an hour in length, give or take, since the tape length was 75 minutes. --IlCattivo25 (talk) 05:27, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

I just found the listing. It was a copy of Samurai Shodown: The Motion Picture. --Videolover1999 (talk) 06:09, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

Barney's Magical Musical Adventure[edit]

Possible Cassette Productions specimen? Must investigate further. --IlCattivo25 (talk) 19:46, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

DVD Players and VCRs[edit]

What DVD players and VCRs do you use for your openings/closings? (including some of your DVD players that trigger the Parental Level menus on certain DVDs and some of your VCRs that can show vertical blanking intervals) 2601:4C4:4000:A8C0:59B9:117:4BE3:B5ED 22:17, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Panasonic PV-9450, Philips DVP5140/37 and Sony SLV-D300P mostly. The Sony player I mentioned is the one that triggers the parental level menus on some DVDs. The VCR that I currently use that shows off the vertical blanking intervals is the Panasonic PV-9450. --Videolover1999 (talk) 01:36, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

When were those manufactured? For the Sony products made prior to the late 2000s, the manufacture date is usually comprised of the last number of the year the unit was manufactured, followed by a letter presumably representing the quarter of the year (e.g. if the date reads 4B, it could mean the unit was manufactured during the 2nd quarter of 2004).

I currently own a Sharp VC-H870 VCR and an RCA DRC200N DVD player. The Sharp VC-H870 VCR was manufactured in June 1991 and is a Canadian-distributed model (I bought it from a Canadian seller on eBay even though I live in the US). The RCA DRC200N was manufactured during the 18th week of 2006 (7618T; May 1, 2006-May 7, 2006), according to the sticker on the box and the registration card, and I bought it from a seller on eBay who owns a pawn shop (the previous owner, who is likely the person that the seller bought it from (unless the seller was the previous owner which I kinda doubt), bought it from a Best Buy, according to the information sticker on the box). For some reason, the manufacture date sticker is not on the unit itself. I also own a Sony DVP-SR210P that was manufactured in November 2018, which I bought it from Walmart through their website in April 2019, but it's stored away right now.

69.85.235.47 17:02, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

I will need to look at that at some point. --Videolover1999 (talk) 22:33, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

METACOM[edit]

Are you sure METACOM actually self-duplicated VHS tapes?

47.17.104.88 21:45, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

  • METACOM is listed as a duplicator in Billboard's 1997 Buyer's Guide. --IlCattivo25 (talk) 01:53, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Hauppauge Video Manufacturing, Ltd.[edit]

So how did you know that Hauppauge Video Manufacturing was a Macrovision customer? Have you checked one or more of your HVM-duplicated tapes to see if there was a Macrovision signal? Also, how many rectangles were there on the vertical interval at the start of the tape?

47.17.104.88 15:09, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

I have two MGM/UA Home Video tapes that I checked so far (Battle for Britain and Red River) and they are both encoded with Macrovision. My copy of Battle for Britain has four rectangles, whereas Red River has three rectangles. --Videolover1999 (talk) 22:12, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
