- January: Genius Products begins distributing titles by Classic Media after its deal with Sony Wonder ended.
- January 15: BCI secured a deal with FremantleMedia to release genre TV shows on DVD.
- January 16: CBS Home Entertainment was formed as a home video division of CBS Corporation, with Paramount Home Entertainment as its distributor.
- February: Genius Products begins distributing titles by Sesame Workshop, also after its deal with Sony Wonder ended.
- June 5: Warner-Elektra-Atlantic Corporation secured a deal with Scripps Networks to distribute its DVD releases.
- June 20: Sony Wonder was transferred from Sony BMG Music Entertainment to Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
- August 21: Paramount Home Entertainment stuck with the HD DVD format for their HD releases until the format's discontinuation the following year.
- September 26: Geneon Entertainment USA stopped distributing its titles.
- October 2: Warner Home Video begins distributing Peanuts titles on DVD.
- November 27: Following a dispute with Anchor Bay and Warner, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. begins releasing on DVD.
