The Lyons Group/Lyrick Studios[edit]

I recently discovered on a Reddit post, in one of the comments below the post, that one person worked at a videocassette duplication plant and one of the plant's customers was the Lyons Group/Lyrick Studios (creators of Barney). That person also stated that the plant used Otari thermal magnetic duplication machines to duplicate the tapes. He also stated that if, while watching the Barney tapes, he spotted a serious problem, such as glitches in the audio and/or video elements of the tape master, he would throw out the whole master tape, load in a new master and start the duplication process all over. He also stated that the plant barely ever got a movie that was worth watching. He also states that he felt "ruined" because of that "stupid" dinosaur and that the people who worked at the plant could not keep up with the demand for Barney tapes.

So, was it a plant operated by West Coast Video Duplicating, Inc. (later known as MediaCopy, Inc.) that the person worked at? And if so, which plant was it? 69.85.235.48 15:17, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

  • Doubtful. WCVD got plenty of movies worth watching. Did any Barney tapes have printings like this? If not, probably Producers Color Service Inc. --IlCattivo25 (talk) 18:45, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

I myself do not own any Barney tapes, so I cannot confirm for sure. 69.85.235.48 18:53, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

  • I read that comment further, did some investigation, and can confirm, more or less, it was, indeed, Cassette Productions. --IlCattivo25 (talk) 18:59, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
  • Well, I actually have two Barney tapes from 1990: Waiting for Santa and Barney Goes To School, and I didn't see any form of printing on the cassettes. I didn't even see Cassette Productions in the reddit post. So I somewhat doubt The Lyons Group was with Cassette Productions. They must have been a client of a different duplicator. --Videolover1999 (talk) 07:26, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
