So even though Rank Video Services America was renamed Deluxe Video Services in mid-1998 (which resulted in their letter code being changed from "RVS" to "DLX"), some labels/distributors such as Paramount and probably Columbia TriStar continued to use their own letter codes until sometime in 1999 (Paramount's letter code was PAR, Columbia TriStar's letter code was CTV). I wonder when in 1999 that label/distributor letter codes were phased out in favor of the "DLX" code. For example, my copy of "Rugrats: Angelica Knows Best" (a Nickelodeon Video/Paramount release) was pressed during the 4th week of 1999 (PAR 904 instead of DLX 904), while my copy of "It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown" (a Peanuts Home Video/Paramount release) was pressed during the 37th week of 1999 (DLX 937). I also own a copy of "Chuckie the Brave" (also a Nickelodeon Video/Paramount release) that was pressed during the 34th week of 1999 (DLX 934). |

The latest RVSA that I detected was on my 1998 copy of Raiders of the Lost Ark (RVSA61, 24th Week of 1998) and the earliest DELUXE that I detected was on one of my copies of Blue's Clues: Arts and Crafts (DELUXE67, 23rd Week of 1998). I saw a reply from YouTube user Alex's Media Openings (who did said video, on a comment mentioning it could be from a different duplicator), and as it turns out, it was. The week-year code is on the left side and it does not have a barcode on the lid, so this leads me to think it was Premiere Video all along. Over a year ago, I once saw a sealed RCA/Columbia tape that had the film reel watermarks, which I found odd, because at the time, I thought they started doing those watermarks the year RVSA became Deluxe Video Services (1998). |

A few months ago, I’ve got at least two pre-1998 Paramount tapes with the silver Paramount seal-sticker. They were both Rugrats tapes. "Return of Reptar" (pressed during the 16th week of 1997 / PAR 716), and "Tommy Troubles" (pressed during the 26th week of 1997 / PAR 726). When I got both tapes, they had the film reel watermarks on the shrink wrapper over the back of the packaging. Weirdly, my “Return of Reptar” tape also had a little bit of the Paramount Home Video logo watermarks imprinted on the spine of the packaging. And to my awareness, watermarks can get imprinted on the packaging overtime. |

I'd like to know how the watermarks were printed on the shrink wrappers. Did they print the watermarks after sealing the shrink wraps over the product, or before? And did they have to experiment with several wrappers before deciding which one to place over the product? |

Rank Video Services America Shrink Wrappers[edit]
