In 1996, Live Entertainment took over much of the direct sales force from Warner-Elektra-Atlantic Corporation, which continued to be LIVE's distributor, and in 1997, the Avid label was dissolved. Later that year, the company began distributing titles from [[Hallmark Home Entertainment]]. Also that year, the company started releasing its titles on DVD. Earlier DVDs were packaged in a snap case format due to WEA distributing the titles, but it was changed to a keep case format soon after the distributor/company name change.
 
In 1997, Live was sold to Bain Capital and rebranded the companyrenamed to '''Artisan Entertainment''' in 1998 to disassociate themselves with mediocre titles and the controversies that followed the highly-publicized Menendez murders. The home video unit became '''Artisan Home Entertainment''' soon afterwards. In 1998, the distribution deal with WEA expired, and [[20th Century Home Entertainment|20th Century Fox Home Entertainment]] replaced WEA as distributor, although Artisan would continue to market and handle sales of its titles.
 
In 2003, Artisan was sold to Lions Gate Entertainment. The following year, Artisan Home Entertainment was folded into [[Lions Gate Home Entertainment]]
