The label was formed in late 1995 as a division of Cartoon Network. Earlier Cartoon Network releases feature classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons, namely Scooby-Doo, Jonny Quest and The Flintstones, but gradually shifted focus on Cartoon Network's original series. The line was first used on Classic Jonny Quest.

NOTE: Ever since Warner Home Video took over distribution for Turner Home Entertainment in October 1996 following the Turner-Time Warner merger, all Cartoon Network video releases, as well as all ads for them, from that point on carried the Cartoon Network branding with no video indicator whatsoever.
