Penthouse Video

From Home Video

History

[edit]

Penthouse Video made its origins back in 1983 when Penthouse partnered with Vestron Video to produce many titles based on the magazine, aiming to compete with Playboy Enterprises's video line. The line went dormant in 1988.

In 1991, the line was revived, with a deal at A*Vision Entertainment (later WarnerVision Entertainment). Penthouse became a challenger to Playboy in home video sales during the 1990s in popularity. In 1999, Penthouse switched distribution to Image Entertainment, which would begin distributing Playboy titles full-time two years later.

In 2006, distribution of Penthouse's titles stopped as Penthouse moved to a hardcore format.
