Fading Rainbow[edit]

Description[edit]

  • Tapes with this ending had this follow the static, usually on some tapes from a few duplicators that used thermal magnetic duplication (TMD) systems from Otari. On known tapes where it goes all the way down, a rumbling sound is heard in the linear track. Some tapes with this ending may not have static preceding it at all. The look of it sometimes varied by tape; a few examples are shown in the gallery below.

Tail End Black Screen[edit]

Description[edit]

  • On tapes with this ending, a few seconds of black screen immediately follow the closing stretch of blank tape.
  • This ending appears to have been used exclusively by duplicators that printed product on Otari TMD machines. In RVSA's case, this was retired presumably in May 1997, probably in favor of newer tapes with test patterns having the two sets of numbers (with the first set being the ITF prefix without the extra zeros) in the VBI at the beginning. It is unknown when the other duplicators retired it, though it can be assumed that Cinram retired it in the early 2000s.

  • Cinram International (seen on EP/SLP mode tapes, and a few SP mode tapes, that had the static roll of death)

  • MediaCopy ("TMDSP" or "TMDEP" in the printings)
  • Mirror Image Duplication Services
  • Premiere Video (seen mostly on EP/SLP mode tapes)
  • Promotional Video Duplicators
  • Rank Video Services America (seen on EP/SLP mode tapes, and a few SP mode tapes, printed in Northbrook that had a white screen test pattern or a long black screen, with the cut tone at the end)
  • Resolution Video Production and Duplication
  • Vaughn Communications Inc.
  • VTR Video (seen on some EP/SLP mode tapes)
