New World Video

History

Prior to the launch of its home video arm, New World's titles were mainly released by Warner Home Video, Media Home Entertainment, Nelson Entertainment and Thorn EMI Video. In late 1984, New World Pictures formed its own home video division, New World Video, initially to market and distribute its own titles. During that time, the company acquired Learning Corporation of America, an educational supplier. In 1987, the company secured a deal with Empire Pictures. Meanwhile, New World Pictures itself was reorganized as New World Entertainment.

In January 1990, after New World itself filed for bankruptcy and was even purchased by investor Ronald O. Perelman, both this division and the film assets were sold to Trans Atlantic Entertainment, a company formed by New World's former co-chairmen. Afterwards, R&G Video became the exclusive licensing agent for the libraries and subsequently secured a distribution deal with Starmaker Entertainment.
