HD-DVD
Appearance
HD-DVD is a format introduced in 2006 that was a competitor to Blu-ray which launched the same year. The format (as its name implies) was an extension of the DVD format which existed since 1996, or in similar words, an HD version of the DVD format. The format was discontinued in 2008 once all the companies who supported it discontinued usage of the format; since then, the supporting companies started releasing standard DVD releases in HD format.
