History[edit]

In 1974, Noel C. Bloom founded Caballero Control Corporation as an adult company. The company initially specialized in 8mm pornographic short loops. The company was expanded in 1980 by launching a home video division.

Caballero expanded in 1981 by launching a subsidiary, Family Home Entertainment for family releases, and eventually launched NCB Entertainment Group with Caballero as one of its holdings, as well as a general entertainment subsidiary, International Video Entertainment, of which Bloom had founded in 1984. In 1987, Caballero sold its stock in IVE to Carolco Pictures, leaving Bloom using his money to fund his startup Celebrity Home Entertainment.

Throughout the 1980s it was awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages due to its films being illegally pirated. It later acquired the library of Cal Vista International.

In September 2012 Vermont-based ice cream maker Ben and Jerry's filed a lawsuit against Caballero for copyright infringement. The lawsuit was filed in US District Court in Manhattan on September 5, and claims that the sale of 10 “exploitative, hardcore pornographic” movies in Caballero's "Ben & Cherry’s" line harms the reputation of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc.’s by linking it with pornography.

The lawsuit was settled on July 29, 2013, with Caballero agreeing not to sell products that make reference to Ben & Jerry's products.
