Caballero Home Video
History
[edit]In 1974, Noel C. Bloom founded Caballero Control Corporation as an adult company. The company initially specialized in 8mm pornographic short loops. The company expanded in 1980 by launching a home video division.
It expanded even more beyond its core category in 1981 by launching another home video division, Family Home Entertainment, for kids and family releases. Eventually, NCB Entertainment Group was formed with Caballero becoming a subsidiary. A general entertainment subsidiary, International Video Entertainment, was also formed, with FHE becoming a division of this new subsidiary. In 1987, Bloom dismantled the group, especially by selling his stock in IVE to Carolco Pictures, and decided to use the money to found Celebrity Home Entertainment.
Throughout the 1980s, it was awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages due to its films being illegally pirated. It later acquired the library of Cal Vista International.
In September 2012, Vermont-based ice cream maker Ben and Jerry's filed a lawsuit against Caballero for copyright infringement. The lawsuit was filed in US District Court in Manhattan on September 5, and claims that the sale of 10 “exploitative, hardcore pornographic” movies in Caballero's "Ben & Cherry’s" line harms the reputation of Ben & Jerry's by linking it with pornography.
The lawsuit was settled on July 29, 2013, with Caballero agreeing not to sell products that make reference to Ben & Jerry's products.
