VidAmerica, Inc.

History[edit]

VidAmerica, Inc. was originally formed in 1979 as VidAmerica as a rental service and a division of duplicator Video Corporation of America, to distribute films from United Artists and Avco Embassy Pictures,. It was expanded to special interest programs over time, including NFL Films and other sports titles.

In 1983, the company secured a distribution deal with Vestron Video to handle the company's titles. Distribution of the company's titles shifted to Lightning Video in 1985. In 1985, VCA merged with Technicolor to form VCA-Technicolor, Inc. and VidAmerica became incorporated as VidAmerica, Inc., and a year later, the company was sold off to Ronald O. Perelman, owners of Compact Video, who would sell the company a few years later.

In 1987, the company was reorganized, and the distribution deal with Vestron Video lapsed. In 1990, VidAmerica made an attempt to merge with Best Film & Video Corporation, but the deal failed. In 1992, the company collapsed, and its library was sold to United American Video Corporation.

1980[edit]

VidAmerica originally had an exclusive rental contract with United Artists to distribute 20 of their films on home video, before the latter teamed up with Magnetic Video the following year.
