How to Tell
[edit]- Most tapes did not have any form of printing; however, some, such as one known copy of Sol Bianca from A.D. Vision, had the Vaughn V printed above the record tab, with a number indicating the tape length next to it, or else had it formatted as V-XX, while others, such as one known copy each of Burn Up (from A.D. Vision), Music Magic Video Library: From Mao to Mozart: Issac Stern in China (Excerpts) (from Silver Burdett Ginn) and Music Magic Video Library: Dancing (also from Silver Burdett Ginn), had an additional long string of numbers on the spine including the time code in YYMMDDHHMM format (e.g. V-60 2-9406080134 or [Vaughn V]18 2-9403051919).
- One known copy each of Music Magic Video Library: Music for Special Occasions and Music Magic Video Library: Rhythm had the printings formatted like these respective examples:
0-382-26613-7 592000[Vaughn V]
0-382-26614-5 S, B&G 592001[Vaughn V]
GR.2 RHYTHM
- Early tapes, as well as several Simitar tapes duplicated here, had dark red printings consisting of the letter V (often represented by the Vaughn V) followed by two strings of numbers (e.g. [Vaughn V]3286 159900). Occasionally, the releasing company's name was stamped to the left (e.g. SIMITAR V3119 510601 or K-TEL 1880 301600). On one known copy of From Beyond: Monsters and Sci-Fi Monsters, the Vaughn V was at the end of the code (e.g. 4831 62650[Vaughn V] or #4177 36395[Vaughn V]). Tapes with such printings, as well as the aforementioned copy of Music Magic Video Library: Rhythm had a few extra seconds of black screen and the "fading rainbow" following the blank space at the tail-end.
- Tapes from this duplicator do not have anything in the vertical blanking interval.
- Tapes duplicated at the plants acquired in the company's acquisition of Centercom Inc. continued to use that duplicator's printings (e.g. 2 65951211 0914 00135 T75 or 2 65951354 0914 02213 T75). On some copies of Samurai Shodown: The Motion Picture, these printings were gray, due to the tape being white.
- Some Simitar Entertainment tapes duplicated here said "VCI" on the face label.
