Unapix Consumer Products
History[edit]
In 1992, David Fox, former partner of Fox/Lorber Associates, had formed Unapix Entertainment, and its first intent was to purchase television syndicator Majestic Entertainment, who handled sales and marketing of Mystic Fire and the Sci-Fi Channel Home Video label, and expanded into the North American territory.
In 1993, it expanded into home video, and A-Pix Entertainment was formed to handle home video distribution, sales and marketing, and secured a deal with ACI to release television movies on videocassette. Two years later, a holding company, called Unapix Consumer Products was formed to handle the marketing of sell-through videocassettes and CD-ROM titles. Also that year, Unapix formed Unapix Films as a film financing arm.
In 1996, Unapix had acquired Miramar Productions, as well as the home video rights to the television series Weird TV. In 1997, the company licensed its titles to Simitar Entertainment for the DVD market. In 1998, the company expanded to the Internet.
In 2000, Unapix Entertainment filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and shut down the following year. In 2002, the library and much of Unapix's assets was absorbed into the newly-formed Ardustry Home Entertainment.
