"Christmas Classics" (1993 VHS)

So, yesterday I checked my copy of the 1993 VHS release of "Christmas Classics" from Burbank Video. The tape itself has the 1993 horizontal silkscreen-inked label, but it doesn't have a barcode sticker, nor an inked printing on the tape spine, nor does it have "EP" engraved on the left side of the tape. I noticed that at the beginning of the tape, the code on the left of the VBI said "VT01421 MN#021". Some tapes pressed at Technicolor Video Services beginning in 1994 had the same VBI code style, particularly some copies of various tapes from Walt Disney Home Video (I own a 1994 LP mode copy of "The Ugly Dachsund" pressed on September 7, 1994 and a copy of "Disney's Sing-Along Songs: Circle of Life" pressed on November 14, 1994 that are like that, except I don't think the codes on those end with the MN or MM numbers). So I guessed my copy must have been printed/pressed sometime around 1995 when Anchor Bay Entertainment was in the process of switching its videocassette duplicator from Technicolor Video Services to Allied Digital Technologies. Though, it doesn't seem to have the quality check number, which is usually printed in red or blue ink between the clear leader tape and the beginning of the tape. After I checked my copy, I discovered a copy of this VHS release that was printed/pressed at Allied Digital Technologies on the 239th day of 1996 (August 26, 1996). Said copy was uploaded to YouTube by a user named Sam AKA Dank Mozart in January 2023, and had the same exact code on the VBI at the beginning as my copy, except the code ended with "MN#025" (See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIp7QUdNmis).

Thanks to that particular copy that Sam AKA Dank Mozart uploaded, now I'm beginning to debate whether my copy was pressed at Technicolor Video Services, or Allied Digital Technologies, and whether Technicolor Video Services sold the master tapes or the entirety of the plant, where Anchor Bay Entertainment had pressed some of their tapes at, to Allied Digital Technologies.

P.S., Sam AKA Dank Mozart and anyone else who is reading this, I'd like to let you know that the 1992 VHS opens with the late 1980s blue and white tracking control disclaimer screen, followed by an FBI warning in Gil Sans and Helvetica fonts, and then the Burbank Video logo.

Actually, I take that back -- I think Technicolor just sold the master tapes to Allied. Also my copy of "DSAS: CoL" actually does have an MN number on the VBI code. 69.85.235.224 19:27, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

Burbank Video

Recently, on Thursday, I got four VHS tapes from Burbank Video from eBay. They are as follows:

1. "Burbank Combat Classics - World War II: The Pacific Theater" (1991)

1991 release - Begins with the late 1980s blue tracking control disclaimer screen and the late 1980s FBI warning screen, before the late 1980s Burbank Video logo, all of which appeared to have been duplicated from a U-Matic tape, rather than a digital mastering tape, as evident by the sharpness.

Catalog number: TG 1226

Uses the 1994 horizontal sticker label with the Video Treasures logo. No catalog number on the label.

Duplicated at Technicolor Videocassette, Inc./Video Services's Livonia, Michigan plant, using a Sony Sprinter -- Barcode sticker on the tape spine, with the number 2 in blue on the far right of the sticker. The code "VTTG1226EPD" is on the left of the sticker and was placed before the title.

Blue "DUPLICATED IN EP MODE" sticker attached to the back of the packaging.

"EP" is engraved on the left side of the cassette in orange.

2. "Burbank Combat Classics - World War II: The European Theater" (1991)

1994 re-release - Begins with the 1990 Video Treasures/Anchor Bay Entertainment tracking control disclaimer and FBI warning screens and 1987 Video Treasures logo (with "Presents"), before the late 1980s Burbank Video logo. In the middle of the tape, there is a screen that says "SECOND FEATURE TO FOLLOW". Ends with the 1990 closing variant of the 1987 Video Treasures logo.

Catalog number: TG 1227

Uses the 1994 horizontal sticker label with the Video Treasures logo. No catalog number on the label.

Duplicated at Technicolor Videocassette, Inc./Video Services's Livonia, Michigan plant, using a Sony Sprinter -- Barcode sticker on the tape spine, with the number 3 in blue on the far right of the sticker. The code "VTTG1227EPD" is on the left of the sticker and was placed before the title.

In the middle of the tape, there is a screen that says "SECOND FEATURE TO FOLLOW". Ends with the 1990 closing variant of the 1987 Video Treasures logo.

Uses the 1994 horizontal sticker label with the Burbank Video logo. Catalog number VTBV1228-V on the label.

Duplicated at Technicolor Videocassette, Inc./Video Services's Livonia, Michigan plant, using a Sony Sprinter -- Inked printing on the tape spine. The code "VTTG1228-V" was placed after the title. Print/press date: December 17, 1994.

4. "Burbank Combat Classics - World War II: Preparing for War" (1991)

1991 release - Begins with the late 1980s blue tracking control disclaimer screen and the late 1980s FBI warning screen, before the late 1980s Burbank Video logo, all of which are presented in digital mastering tape quality.

Uses the 1994 horizontal sticker label with the Video Treasures logo. No catalog number on the label.

Strangely, my copy of the "North Africa & Italy" tape has a second of the shuffling color bars, followed by a second of the color static, at the end. I guess during the process of the tapes being duplicated, there were tracking issues with the mastering tape machine. Either that, or there must've been an error from when the mastering tape was created. (I don't know why else the shuffling bars and color static appeared at the end of my copy of this tape)

VCA/Technicolor

An issue of Billboard Magazine published on March 23, 1985 suggests that VCA/Technicolor was previously known as FGSA Inc. I wonder what the "FGSA" initialism stands for. 69.85.235.224 19:03, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

Nickelodeon Video and Sony Wonder (a division of Sony Music Entertainment)

There exists eBay listings of some 1995 pressings of Rugrats: The Santa Experience from Sony Wonder that were duplicated by Technicolor Video Services in Livonia, Michigan using Sony Sprinter machines, which these copies used horizontal silkscreen-inked labels on the front of the cassette shell. This listing includes one of those copies, and is paired with a 1998 pressing of the 1997 "A Rugrats Thanksgiving" VHS from Paramount Home Video (duplicated by Deluxe Video Services). The copy included in that listing was printed/pressed on November 3, 1995 at 09:52 PM (110395-2152); the tape batch number prefix in the printings says "SM" (Sony Music Entertainment). 2601:4C4:4000:A8C0:11DB:323E:35DB:ECD0 20:50, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Random House Home Video

This particular copy is a Technicolor Video/CD/DVD Services specimen that uses a horizontal silkscreen-inked label on the front/face of the cassette shell rather than the regular sticker variant. The print/press date/time is February 26, 1999 at 06:44 AM (022699-0644). The batch number which is in the cassette shell spine's overall printings says "BM 114690". The packaging does not have an ISBN / UPC barcode anywhere (Usually it would be on the back, and it would usually begin with "07464", since Random House Home Video was distributed by Sony Music Entertainment's Sony Wonder division at the time).

Was this copy sold through mail-order or something? If that’s the case, then is the "BM" in the printings supposed to refer to BMG Direct Marketing (the mail-order division of Bertelsmann Music Group)?
