Republic Pictures Home Video

From Home Video

History[edit]

In 1983, National Telefilm Associates, whose by that time, the original contract with The Nostalgia Merchant had expired had set up its own home video division NTA Home Entertainment to issue the NTA library on videocassette. In 1984, NTA launched a subsidiary, Spotlite Video to issue public domain material.

By the end of the year, NTA had bought out logos, copyrights, and trademarks of Republic Pictures Corporation, and as a result, the home video division was renamed to Republic Pictures Home Video. In 1985, they launched a religious sub-label, Inspiration Video, which served the same function as Spotlite, most of them licensed from World Wide Pictures. Also that year, the company briefly held distribution of Vidmark Entertainment's titles.

In early 1986, the Spotlite and Inspiration labels began to be phased out in favor of using the Republic Pictures Home Video name. It continued as a supplier of public domain material, and official Republic productions, alongside original material.

In the early 1990s, the company secured a deal with Lumiere Pictures to market and distribute titles on videocassette, as well as a deal with Hallmark to market and distribute titles on videocassette. Hallmark left Republic soon afterwards to market its videocassettes. In 1993, the RPHV name was phased out in favor of branding the home video unit, Republic Pictures.

In 1998, it secured a distribution deal with Artisan Home Entertainment, whereas Artisan would market and distribute Republic's library on videocassette.
