A couple of months after the Masterpiece Collection was discontinued in late 1999, Disney launched a new video line of live-action/animation hybrid and fully-animated feature films in January 2000, called the Gold Classic Collection, or simply known as the Gold Collection. The line only ran for little more than a year; its discontinuation was allegedly due to subpar sales.
The on-screen logo contained a gold stripe with the word "GOLD" in red on the left, the word "COLLECTION" on the right, and a red circle with the gold Sleeping Beauty castle and the word "CLASSIC" below the castle in gold color placed between the red words, and had the same fanfare as on the 1991 gold WDHV logo. This on-screen logo was only on the VHS releases, whereas the DVD releases included the 1991 gold WDHV logo instead.
Most releases in the line, prior to late 2000, contained the same trailer reel at the beginning, including a trailer for the then-new direct-to-video film, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea. In addition, the releases of Mulan and Pinocchio in this line went into moratorium on January 31, 2002, while Toy Story went into moratorium on May 1, 2003.
This list covers all the Gold Classic Collection titles released from the range, as well as similar releases after the discontinuation of the line.
