Initially consisting of original animation, it was soon expanded with licensing agreements with DIC Animation City and ABC Video Enterprises in 1986. In 1986, the label launched an educational sub-division, '''Golden Step Ahead''' for educational material, and in 1987, it launched the '''GoldenVision''' label for general entertainment programming. In 1991, Western Publishing Company bought out Hi-Tops Video from Heron Communications, and merged it into Golden Book Video, alongside the GoldenVision branch.
