- January 22: Bleecker Street had secured its distribution deal with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
- April 7: STX Entertainment had secured a deal with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment to distribute the titles.
- June: Warner's deal with Regency Enterprises regarding the 1991-1999 titles have been expired, resulting in most of them moving to 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
- June 23: FUNimation secures a distribution deal with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
- December 16: Amblin Partners was formed, with Amblin and DreamWorks Pictures as its labels, with Universal handling distribution of most of its titles, including home video rights to Amblin and future DreamWorks live-action films.
