- January 13: Lionsgate acquired Summit Entertainment. As a result, Summit Entertainment would soon transfer home video distribution from Universal to Lionsgate.
- March 12: Saban Brands secured a deal with Shout! Factory to release Power Rangers shows on home video.
- March 22: Lionsgate secured a deal with Saban Brands to distribute future Power Rangers home video releases.
- March 30: Warner Home Video secures a deal with the Samuel Goldwyn Jr. Family Trust to release home video releases, following the expiration of MGM/Fox's distribution deal.
- April 2: RLJ Acquisition acquired both Image Entertainment and Acorn Media and merged together to form RLJ Entertainment.
- April 3: Gaiam acquired Vivendi Entertainment, which was merged to form Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment.
- April 23: Mill Creek Entertainment secures a deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment to do the budget rereleases of its film catalog.
- August 20: DreamWorks Animation secured a deal with 20th Century Fox. As a result, Fox took over home video distribution for all catalog and future DreamWorks animated films for the next four years.
- December 21: Lucasfilm was sold to The Walt Disney Company and future Star Wars and Indiana Jones releases were taken over by Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
