About the 1992 VHS version of The Great Mouse Detective

I have a later pressing of the 1992 Black Diamond Classics VHS of “The Great Mouse Detective”. My copy came with the regular Proof of Purchase tab label below the back cover of the clamshell when I got it, and was printed on January 23, 1994, but when I checked the opening and closing, it still uses the original master, no additional changes. Does your copy come with this sort of tab label, or the prototype Proof of Purchase tab label that’s on early pressings of Beauty and the Beast, or not? And what date was your copy printed?

P.S. I have version 3 of the 1992 VHS of Beauty and the Beast as well, but I think my copy came with the prototype Proof of Purchase tab label, and mine was printed October 18, 1992, which was only 12 days before the actual release date of the tape. What date was your copy of that one printed? 2601:4C4:4000:A8C0:81BD:CE0:11CD:52EA 02:36, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

My copy of “The Great Mouse Detective” does not have any Proof of Purchase label. The tape is labeled “Summer Lead ‘92” and was printed April 17, 1992.

Both of my copies of “Beauty and the Beast” have the prototype Proof of Purchase label, though it’s cut off on my Version 3 tape. My copy of Version 2 was printed June 22, 1992 and has “Christmas Lead ‘92” on the side, while my copy of Version 3 was printed August 27, 1992 and also has “Christmas Lead ‘92” on the side. Neither tape has Sorcerer Mickey on the label.

- CaptainBZ

My copies of both titles do not have Sorcerer Mickey on the tape label either. In fact, nearly none of the pre-mid 1990s Disney tapes that I own have it. By the way, it comes to my realization that American US copies of the 1992 release of "The Great Mouse Detective" removed the WDHV logo on the tape label, and it's only found on copies marketed in Canada. My copy is a US copy so there's no WDHV logo on the tape label. 69.85.235.224 12:29, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

By the way, what date in 1992 was your copy of the 1991 VHS release of "Dumbo" printed? Is it still packaged in the 1989/1991 cover, and does it still retain the red-orange FBI warning screens? 69.85.235.224 12:37, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

My copy of the Dumbo VHS was printed November 28, 1992 and has the ink label with the diamond saying "Disney's CLASSICS". It's still packaged in the 1991 cover, and has no changes from the 1991 tape master. Opens with the red-orange FBI screens and the 1989 WDC logo. - CaptainBZ

There also exists an actual 1992 VHS release. The back of the case cover for the actual 1992 release has the UPC barcode in a slightly smaller border, with the bracket number ending with "-6" in place of "-5", and the film copyright year is removed from the copyright notice on that release. And if I'm not mistaken, the actual 1992 release opens with the green FBI screens replacing the red-orange ones. That one seems to be rare. 69.85.235.224 13:19, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

"The Rescuers Down Under" 1991 VHS

From what I have seen, there are three different versions of the 1991 VHS release of "The Rescuers Down Under".

Version 1 - Copies prior to mid May 1991. US copies of this version have the "Licensed for Private Home Exhibition Only" disclaimer portion of the red-orange warning screens in a shadow outline variation, though the FBI portion is still a regular variant. Canadian copies of this version have both the license disclaimer and duplication disclaimer portions of the red-orange warnings in a shadowed outline variation.

Version 2 - Copies printed after mid May 1991. Basically the same as ver. 1, but has the regular variation of the red-orange warning screens.

Version 3 - Select copies printed between mid June-early August 1991. Basically the same as versions 1 and 2, but has the 10-second cut-in variation of the red-orange warning screens.

There's also the 1992 release of this film, with the Proof of Purchase tab label. That one has the green warning screens, and lacks previews (they could've added at least previews for the original "The Rescuers" and "Beauty and the Beast", but didn't bother doing so, which is a shame!), and it still retains the 1989 BDC logo. (Proof here) In fact, the tape label on that one is still the original 1991 label with the "THE CLASSICS - Walt Disney Home Video" diamond, rather than the standard WDHV logo.

Which version do you have of the 1991 release, and what date was your copy printed? I have version 2 of the 1991, and my copy has two print dates that are only two days apart from each other - July 13, 1991 and July 16, 1991. 69.85.235.224 13:41, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

I have version 2 as well, and my copy was printed July 5th, 1991.

"The Jungle Book" 1991 VHS with the Green Warnings

I have the original version of the 1991 "The Jungle Book" VHS release, which means my copy uses the red-orange warnings. My copy has two print dates that are only two months apart from each other - 344th day of 1990 [December 10, 1990] and March 22, 1991. I've seen copies of the later version with the green warnings printed in July, September, October, and November 1992; and I think another one I saw printed in September 1991 is also the later version, although I'm not entirely sure. What date in 1992 was your copy printed? 69.85.235.224 15:27, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Turns out I made a mistake, my copy was printed March 18th, 1991 and uses the red / orange FBI screens. Will fix this.

- CaptainBZ

You know what’s weird about this release? Some May 1992 pressings of “The Jungle Book” still retain the original red-orange FBI warnings. The title of this particular video uploaded to YouTube by DisneyVHSMuseum happens to be the proof. 2601:4C4:4000:A8C0:7872:9B89:7594:953B 20:02, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

"Aladdin" 1993 VHS

There are two different versions of the 1993 VHS of "Aladdin".

Version 1 - Copies prior to early July 1993. This version has the "Coming to Theaters" bumper, sandwiched between the green warnings and the prototype version of the theatrical preview for "The Lion King".

Version 2 - Copies printed after early July 1993. Basically the same as ver. 1, except this version completely removes the "Coming to Theaters" bumper, and has the regular version of the theatrical preview for "The Lion King".

I have version 2 of this release; my copy was printed on July 19, 1993, and before you ask, my copy is packaged in the cover variation that uses the "The Original Animated Classic" flap on the bottom right of the front. What version do you have, what cover variation is your copy, and what date was yours printed? 69.85.235.224 18:11, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

My copy is version 2, has the flap, and was printed July 25, 1993.

- CaptainBZ

Addendum - I just got a copy printed June 17th, 1993 that lacks the "Original Animated Classic" flap and has the "Coming to Theaters" bumper. No other differences were found.

VCR Question

What VHS VCR brand/model(s) do you have? I have a Sharp VC-H870C 4-head hi-fi stereo VHS VCR, and it was manufactured in June 1991. 2601:4C4:4000:A8C0:55C4:3B0:2821:A5A9 22:51, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

The Rescuers

I only have the original 1992 Black Diamond VHS release of "The Rescuers". My copy is complete with an insert card for the Proof of Purchase and the video booklet, but the back cover on mine does not have any Proof of Purchase tab label above it. Mine was printed on May 17, 1992, which was four months and a day before the actual release date of the tape, and uses the horizontal ink-label without the Sorcerer Mickey on the label. What date was your copy of this release printed on?

About the copy of the 1999 release you have -- by "recalled version", do you mean that your copy is the version with or without the nudity frame on it? Also, what date was your copy of that one printed on? 69.85.235.224 16:38, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

My copy of the 1992 VHS was printed May 12, 1992, doesn't have Sorcerer Mickey on the horizontal ink label, and was purchased from Blockbuster in March 1993. Proof of purchase isn't on the back cover.

By "recalled", yes I mean it's the version with the nudity frame.

- CaptainBZ

So I'm deducing your copy of the 1999 has something like this: an oversized digit on the left, and this sort of code variation "112098-XXXX". The oversized digit on the left, I'm guessing is the digit of the side that is labeled, and the four digits printed next to the print date indicate the time your copy was printed at. Does your copy happen to have this sort of code?

My copy has two print dates: December 9th and December 10th, 1998. Only the latter print date has the four-digit code, which reads 2029.

Also, I have version 1 of the 1996 VHS release of "Mickey Loves Minnie" (this version lacks the Feature Program bumper) with this sort of code; the oversized digit on mine reads 66, and the date reads "121095-1010". 69.85.235.230 19:17, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Fantasia

I have the 1991 VHS release of "Fantasia". My copy is an individual version, has the horizontal ink-label and was printed on November 20, 1991, only 19 days after the actual release date of the tape and 31 days before the tape went into moratorium. What date was your copy printed on, and what label type is your copy? The earliest print date I saw for this release is in June 1991, and that had a horizontal ink-label. I’ve seen copies with a vertical sticker-label, printed late November and December 1991. 2601:4C4:4000:A8C0:5494:9F77:C31C:8013 04:58, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

My copy has a horizontal ink-label and was printed November 19th, 1991 (with the label reading "Christmas Lead '91").

- CaptainBZ

Mine is also labeled CHRISTMAS LEAD '91. 2601:4C4:4000:A8C0:5494:9F77:C31C:8013 23:15, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

The Color of Money

You mentioned that your copy of "The Color of Money" 1987 VHS is a 1995 re-printing, so I deduce your copy is a 1988/circa 1992/93 re-packaging, with bracket no. "531-2" and the distributor information referring to Buena Vista Home Video in place of WDTNT Co. (because WDTNT did not become BVHV until late 1987-early 1988), on the back of the cover, and the 1992/1993 Proof of Purchase tab label printed below it. Does your copy happen to come in this sort of packaging?

I’m also guessing your copy has the vertical ink-label, replacing the oversized Beta-style horizontal sticker-label. By the way, what date in 1995 was your copy printed on? 2601:4C4:4000:A8C0:5494:9F77:C31C:8013 21:51, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Made another mistake here - admittedly it's been a while since I really checked some of my tapes. My copy has bracket no. 531-2, but uses the Betamax styled sticker label and was printed May 20, 1988.
