Walt Disney Mini-Classics was a video series of Disney animated featurettes, which ran from 1988 to 1993 and strangely, 1995. Each featurette ran about 25-40 minutes. This list covers all the Walt Disney Mini-Classics titles released from this range.
Part of the Mini-Classics series (1988-1993)
May 1988
The Mini-Classics series was expected to be the big selling series from Disney at the time that it was launched, starting with a four-part offering topped off by “Mickey’s Magical World,” in honor of Mickey Mouse’s 60th birthday. The other three were “Mickey and the Beanstalk,” “Donald in Mathmagic Land” and “The Reluctant Dragon.” These first four titles do not have any promos at the end of the videos.
This title was originally a short, but eventually became a segment of the 40-minute version of the same name that was released over 5 months later.
Contains a bonus cartoon short, "Morris, the Midget Moose" (1950) at the end of the video.
When the 1986 Walt Disney Home Video “Sorcerer Mickey” logo at the beginning of this release of the title starts to fade out, you can faintly hear the 1986 video dealer announcement. This was likely due to a print-mastering error.
At the end of the video, there is a copyright notice dated from 1987, outsourced from the original 1987 standard release of this title.
Released in honor of Mickey Mouse’s 60th anniversary.
This title was originally a segment from the 1947 film, “Fun and Fancy Free”, but later got re-issued as a standalone featurette in the 1950s.
This title is the version taken directly from the 1963 Wonderful World of Color episode, "The Truth About Mother Goose", hosted by Professor Ludwig Von Drake.
This title was originally a segment from the 1949 film, "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad", but later got re-issued as a standalone featurette in the 1950s.
During the promo at the end of the video, the audio clip used is a generic telephone ringing chime sound that remains unidentified and uninspired to this day. This title is the only one to have this version of the promo.
This title was the first one in the series to have a promo at the end of the video.
During the promo at the end of the video, the audio clip used is a slightly abridged variation of the Walt Disney Mini-Classics logo theme music and the promo itself was updated to show this title and "Bongo", making this title the first one in the series to use this version of the promo.
This title is comprised of the 1955 Disneyland episode, "Jiminy Cricket Presents Bongo" and the 1947 film, "Fun and Fancy Free", in which the film itself was originally a segment of.
This title was the last one in the series to use the May 1989 promo with the slightly abridged logo theme music.
September 1989
Starting in this month of 1989, the Winnie the Pooh featurettes on home video became part of this series.
During the promo at the end of the video, the audio clip used is a dance tune taken directly from the 1936 Mickey Mouse cartoon short, "Thru the Mirror", and the promo itself was updated to show the Winnie the Pooh titles in the series, including this title, making this title the first one in the series to use this version of the promo.
This title was originally released as a double-feature with "The Ugly Dashchund".
This title was originally released as a double-feature with "The Island at the Top of the World", then later became a segment of the 1977 full-length film, "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh".
This title was originally released as a double-feature with the re-issue of the 1963 film, "The Sword in the Stone".
This title was the last one in the series to have the September 1989 promo at the end of the video.
August 1990
The Winnie the Pooh featurette titles from this series were being re-issued in this month of 1990 with Proof of Purchase tab labels printed below the back covers in very strange text fonts, to coincide with the video release of the new Sing-Along Songs program, "Disneyland Fun".
