''The Lion King'' was released on home video for the first time as part of the Masterpiece Collection. Although the tape is advertised in the 1995 update of the Masterpiece Collection trailer, and has the logo on its cover artwork, the logo doesn't appear at all on the tape itself, not on the tape label, not on the print master on-screen either.

Note: When Michael Jacoby had uploaded the opening to his copy on YouTube back in 2019, the description of it says that his copy has a date code of 120594-D, but he could only decipher the date part, which is December 5, 1994. Then a conversation in the comments section by a user named Austin McCoy happened:
* Austin McCoy commented, “You have version 1. The later pressings have the Cinderella and aristocrats preview.”
* Michael Jacoby replied, “Interesting to know. I wonder if that has any relation to the letter "D" on the print date; on the cassette, the print date reads "120594-D."”
* Austin McCoy did not even care at all and just answered, “The earliest copy by far. Mine is March 2, 1995, and it has the Cinderella and aristocrats preview. My sister loved this movie so much. Her copy in January 13, 1995, version 2. You have version 1, I have version 4.”
