The company started operating in the late 1980s as King World Home Video, which was part of TV syndicator King World Productions. In the early 1990s, the company was renamed to King World Direct, and begin selling episodes of wildlife TV shows, like Wild America and documentaries. The company folded soon after CBS took over King World in 2000.
