History

[edit]

Wolfe Video, the oldest and largest distributor of LGBTQIA+ films in North America, was founded by Kathy Wolfe in 1985 as a consumer mail order company for marketing lesbian-oriented titles on the VHS format. It has since become a full-service LGBTQIA+ film distributor. In addition to releasing films centered around the community on DVD in North America, it also books films for film festivals, international sales, digital delivery in the US and broadcast sales. The library of films owned by the company includes more than 100 features and dozens of shorts and documentaries. Its streaming service, WolfeonDemand, was launched in 2012. In 2015, the company's complete library of DVDs of lesbian films was donated to the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives. The company is headquartered in New Almaden, California, and operates its own website.
