The Complete Collector's Guide to Star Wars on VHS

Original Transfer

This transfer was created for the 1982 rental-only release from 20th Century-Fox Video. It opens with a newer 20th Century-Fox logo, and the Lucasfilm and "A long time ago..." slides are anamorphically squeezed; the opening crawl, however, was not. The opening pan down to Tatooine also shifted slightly to the right. Greedo's subtitles are rearranged from the theatrical version but are roughly the same length per slide, and do not appear to have a drop shadow. The first two closing credits slides, for writer/director George Lucas and producer Gary Kurtz, are unsqueezed, but the rest of the closing credits are anamorphically squeezed.

THX Transfer

For this transfer, two versions were created, one in widescreen and another in fullscreen.

Fullscreen

For the only time on a domestic fullscreen transfer, the original 20th Century-Fox logo was restored. The Lucasfilm and "A long time ago..." slides were zoomed out to fit the 4:3 window, and the opening pan down to Tatooine shifted slightly to the left instead. Greedo's subtitles were also redesigned, and the closing credits were anamorphically squeezed starting during the final iris out. US and Canadian copies opened with the "One last time..." promo; however, international releases, such as in Mexico, Italy, and Hong Kong, included a trailer for The X-Files instead.
