Tartan Video
History
[edit]Tartan Films was founded as a film distributor by Hamish McAlpine. Its subsidiaries included Tartan Video, Tartan USA and Tartan Asia Extreme, the latter named for a term coined by McAlpine himself. It began releasing titles under the Metro-Tartan Distribution name in 1992, but would revert to simply using the Tartan name for its titles in 2003. In June 2008, the company went into administration and its library was sold to the Palisades Media Group, resulting in the formation of Palisades Tartan. In September 2016, the company's website was replaced with a notice saying that "we are currently performing maintenance on our website." In December 2016, it was replaced by a largely blank page with contact information. This held until September 2024, when the URL for Palisades Tartan began redirecting to a Turkish gaming website.
