Betty Boop

[edit]

This question is for IlCattivo25.

While skimming around Republic Pictures Home Entertainment’s official VHS releases of Betty Boop, I discovered a sealed copy of the "Definitive Collection Vol. 1" VHS that has a Universal UPC sticker over the wrap. Here's the proof. I even looked up the UPC number on that sticker on GS1’s website, but the number is apparently not supported by them, which means I couldn't detect the name of the company that owned that number.

Did Universal Music & Video Distribution (UMVD) handle distribution for Republic Pictures Home Entertainment back in the mid-1990s or something??? If not, then I'd like to know what the significance is of having that sticker with that logo on there.

Another example, from a sealed "Confidential" VHS. This time, the Artisan Home Entertainment logo is on the back of the packaging, which I'm aware that Artisan secured the home media rights to Republic's library in 1998.

UPCs

[edit]

I’ve typed in the UPC of this company's VHS release of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", and the UPC is now registered to a company I’ve never really heard of: Seminole Souvenirs, Inc. It appears that when RPHE's distribution deal with Lionsgate (which started out with Artisan Entertainment which merged into Lionsgate in 2004) expired in the early 2010s and RPHE went defunct, they sold off the UPC license key number to this unknown company. 2601:4C4:4000:A8C0:D00:6EB6:37D4:BC6B 21:31, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
