Talk:Cannon Video
Add topicYou know, The Cannon Group, Inc. had licensing agreements/deals with a lot of motion picture and home video companies. During the 1980s, some of their films were theatrically distributed by MGM (then known as MGM/UA Entertainment Co.). Also, Cannon formed a joint venture with HBO called HBO/Cannon Video in 1986 and the joint venture was short-lived; it ended in 1987. They also licensed the home video rights to the then-upcoming 32 feature films to Media Home Entertainment. Following the dissolution of the short-lived joint venture, Cannon formed their own video label under a then-new video distribution deal with Warner Home Video. MGM officially bought out most of the assets and libraries of Cannon in the late 1990s, though some assets and libraries of Cannon are now owned by StudioCanal, including the EMI Films library. Previously, the video rights to the EMI Films library were licensed to Republic Pictures Home Video, and then in 1999, Republic's parent company Spelling Entertainment was sold to Viacom (now known as Paramount Global), while distribution of the Republic Pictures Home Video label was contracted to Artisan Entertainment (later acquired by Lion's Gate Entertainment in 2004). Today, Republic Pictures is known as Melange Pictures, while the video rights to its library are contracted to Olive Films. Ironically, on the other hand, HBO is now owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (formerly Discovery Communications, Time Warner and WarnerMedia), since Time Inc. was merged with Warner Communications to form Time Warner in 1990. 69.85.235.229 19:29, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
